Architecture in Croatia: extraordinary solutions of our luxury villas

Anyone who knows the beautiful country of Croatia knows its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. With this in mind, it is not surprising that Croatia is also home to many architectural wonders.
From stunning coastlines to picturesque islands, Croatia boasts diverse architectural styles that seamlessly blend tradition and modernity. However, this does not mean that architecture in Croatia is not without challenges.
In order to dive deeper into the realm of Croatian architecture, we turn to the insights of two experienced architects: Vesna Dalbelo from the Architectural Studio aPlan and Elene Vučinovec from Design-architecture studio Das Mono

The state of Croatian architecture - advantages and disadvantages

Although contemporary architecture in Croatia has yet to reach significant levels of distinctiveness, it is nonetheless unique.
Elena Vučinovec says that the influences of Croatia's rich history, both Mediterranean culture and traditional Slavonian architecture, are still visible. What makes Croatian architecture special is precisely this combination of different styles that intertwine with the geography and tradition of the region in certain locations.
Speaking about differences in architectural choice, Vesna Dalbelo expresses concern about some challenges in modern Croatia architecture. These challenges can negatively impact the environment and surrounding properties. She believes that construction projects in Croatia need better planning. This should not be a problem considering the significant number of good architects in Croatia.
Despite these challenges, Dalbelo acknowledges the emergence of "well-designed projects within urban cores and rural areas, mainly aimed at more demanding tourists and/or those with higher disposable incomes".
Elena Vučinovec highlights the emergence of modern architecture. This architecture often draws inspiration from traditional elements or offers contemporary interpretations of coastal life. Trends include harmonization of architectural forms with coastal landscapes and minimalist design. Also, trends include seamless integration of external contents into the environment.

Defining luxury in architecture: designing a villa that lasts

Elena Vučinovec draws attention to the importance of creating a space that evokes desirable feelings.
"The architecture of a particular building can influence a person to feel significant, important, small, insignificant, empowered, motivated, comfortable, uncomfortable, good or bad".
This means that luxury is not only about possessions. It is also about architecture and design that in they give the individual a sense of importance, spaciousness, admiration, simplicity and happiness.
What are the factors in architecture that makes it luxurious? Factors that make people feel abundance in the space around them? Also - can we find them in Croatia?
Furthermore, Vesna Dalbelo points out that personal preferences define luxury. However, some characteristics of architecture transcend personal taste and become universal signs of high quality.
For example, the quality of the materials used, craftsmanship, technological progress. Also "green" concepts that reflect luxury, regardless of design.
Elena Vučinovec agrees with these signifiers of luxury in Croatian architecture. She too adds excellent spatial design and decorations which are not usually found in conventional construction.
Both speakers agree that architecture high class, especially if it is intended for tourists, often has certain features. For example, well-maintained surroundings, swimming pools, saunas, outdoor kitchens, private gyms, spacious dressing rooms, rooms with attached bathrooms, etc.
Ultimately, your own design vision will define the luxury of the property. Based on that vision, you and the architect can make decisions that will transfer it to the (future) property.

The best villas in Croatia - where to look for them?

When asked about significant examples of designer villas along the Croatian coast, both architects point out the abundance of such properties. These properties range from modern buildings to tastefully renovated traditional stone houses.
Architect Elena Vučinovec mentions regions like Istria and Dalmatia, where the smaller cities are increasingly revitalizing with luxury villas. This is happening due to the saturation of cities that no longer have the capacity for new quality construction.
It also notices a growing popularity luxury accommodation on islands and villages. In such areas, peace and relaxation are some of the most luxurious factors. There are villas in Gorski kotar and Lika that offer facilities similar to those on the coast. However, they are less represented and the owners are more focused on winter tourism.
In short, some of the best examples of villas in Croatia can be found along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. This is not surprising because the coast is the most desirable part of Croatia.

Luxury architecture: Croatian vision of modern elegance in the project Sv. Philip and Jacob

One of the hidden gems of the Croatian coast is a small place between Zadar and Biograd na Moru, Saint Philip and Jacob. This pleasant place in Zadar County has everything you could need for a comfortable life, including an incredible geographical location.
New modern villas located in this picturesque town offer enchanting views of the blue Adriatic Sea and the surrounding islands. Living here means enjoying the benefits of a perfect blend of peace and comfort.
Just imagine waking up to the soothing sound of waves lapping the shore. You are greeted by panoramic views of the crystal clear sea as the sun rises. Enjoying a leisurely breakfast prepared in your state-of-the-art kitchen, take a dip in the refreshing water of your pool.
According to our speakers, this is exactly what it should be like to own a villa of high quality architectural design.
